The Johns Hopkins Pediatric Infusion Center is a second home to some of the most inspirational children in the world. Children from all over the country come to this center multiple times a week to receive lengthy, life-saving infusions.
For our 2014 fundraiser, we aimed to raise money to purchase iPads for the children to use while they sit restless for hours at a time. A distraction for both the child and the parent, we envisioned these iPads to be outlets into a better reality, a minor escape from the pain. Our initial goal was to purchase six iPads and as many games, movies, and apps as possible!
Fundraising with the Across the Bay 10k
The Across the Bay 10k includes a 6.1-mile course takes runners and walkers over the 4.35-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Participants get to experience water vistas dotted with sailboats from a bridge that does not allow pedestrian traffic at any other time of the year. Complete with an after-party for the runners, friends and family, there is live music, great food, refreshing drinks and family friendly activities.
Hope Returned sponsored a pre-race carb-load pasta party, where guests brought holiday gifts for donation to the children at the infusion center.
Not only was Hope Returned able to reach our goal of donating six iPads to the children at Johns Hopkins Pediatric Infusion Center, but we doubled our donation. Due to the support and generosity of the Hope Returned donors, twelve iPads were donated along with countless other gifts brought in by generous donors at the pre-race pasta party!
